Avalanche Hammer Oilers 9-1 in round one – Hockey Writers – Coloka Avalanche
The Edmonton Raiders (6-6-4) host the Colorado Avalanche (9-1-5) on Saturday night (Nov 8), as four players in The League battle it out. In what should have been a highly anticipated game turned into a rout as the Avalanche dominated the Oilers 9-1 to get a capped road victory. One group showed up, and the other didn’t. Here is the return of your game.
Game clarity
The Avalanche opened the scoring 13:29 into the first period. Cale Makar went in from the right and ripped the post and in the deal Stuart Stimner for his fifth goal of the season. Then, more than a minute later, Makar added another to the same play, hitting the netminder under the arm. Colorado thought they added another courtesy of Gabriel Landeskog, but the oilers challenged, and won, keeping the score 2-0. That was the score heading in, with the Avalanche having a 9-6 shooting advantage.

Colorado stretched the lead to 3-0 just 2:38 into the middle. Sam Malinski’s Point Shot wasn’t treated badly by the leather, and Gavin Brinkley was blown away by the juicy renewal of his second campaign. Colorado’s comeback continued as Brent Burns’s Plans’ Slall Pass was directed by Jack Drubre in the high slot, past NetMinder, 4:45 into the period. Leather was eventually replaced by Calvin Pickard in the Ouders’ Net.
The Oilers continued to be shy on home ice as Parker Kelly made it 5-0. Colorado won another puck battle, and Kelly was left alone in front of the net, sliding the puck past.
Edmonton finally got on the board with a power play marker at 11:30 of the period. Connor McDavid came inside and picked his short side for his fifth of the season.
Kelly added another with a burning goal. Kelly forced the advantage and came up himself, beat pickard with a red exhred, backhand, a good goal. The Avalanche took a 100-1 6-1 lead into the second inning, with a 12-10 advantage in overtime, and 21-16 overall.
To start the final frame, Nathan MacKinnon was rushed by the odd man out with Martin NECAS, and ripped a shot just 24 seconds into his 11th period. MacKinnon hit another to make it 8-1. He came out of the penalty box and into the offensive zone at speed, ripping the cover over the glove of the urgent Piclard for his fourth point of the competition of the tournament. After that, Drust made it 9-1 with his second of the game off a nice feed from Ross Colton in the box. Colorado outshot Edmonton 14-8 in the third period and 34-24 overall.
The Avalanche concluded their scheduled back-to-back road trip on Sunday (November 9) against the Vanucks in Vancouver. Meanwhile, the Oilers end their two-for-two homestand on Monday (November 10) against the Blue Jackets. The two teams meet again on March 10 in Colorado.
