Donaldson reigns in Spain after stunning tour – golf news

Ryder Cup Star Jamie DAMIE DAMIE DAMIE DAMIE DAMIE DAMIE DAMIE DANIELDSON is now a tour of legends after overcoming the 40-shot hurdles to win the European Championship by Peter Baker.

Playing in his second tournament after turning 50 in the summer, the Welshman – Winner of the Throw World Tour – shot MAMael Lundberg, Thomas Gögele and Van Phillips.

Suspected leader Michael Campbell completed the back-nine with a series of sudden bogeys and finished in a tie for fifth place with Simon Griffiths and Councilman Matt Cort.

Swedish Ryder Cup duo Jarmo Sandelin and Joakim Haeggman, as well as Adilson da Silva and Dutchman Maarten Lafeber – who matched Donaldson’s low round of 67 – are a shot back at -7.

Jamie’s plan

“It’s amazing,” Donaldson said afterward. “I had a good week and it was nice to play well today and with that last birdie. All week they had to use par-freves, I took that today.

“At the beginning of the round I wasn’t trying to push too hard, I wanted to let it happen and stick to having chances to have chemistry.

“I’m very happy to have finished so well, and although I’m a shame I got bogged down on 17, I hit a good drive on 18 and set a strong pace for the green hearts.

“I played in Italy and I finished 17th, and I remember thinking that it was very difficult because there are many who find golf in Italy, and they were able to win tournaments here.”

Starting at 5-under, the 2014 Ryder Cup player ran out of blocks with three birdies in his first six holes to close within as US Open Champion Campbell played. One with 10 – as Campbell BogeyEd – gave him a share of the lead as the left of the argument. A sensational finish, with superb birdies at 16 and 18, took him into the Clubhouse with an 11-under lead.

Germany’s Gögele earlier seized the opportunity to lead in the front three legs of them and was soon in a straight battle with Donaldson for the title. A bogey at Gögele’s 17th led to an 11th lead but like Donaldson he bogeyed the par-threes and was left needing five birdies to force play. Unfortunately, his shot hit the wind and found water, and although he ripped a par that left him with a shot for the clubhouse lead.

Gögele was joined at 10 by a player in the form of three months ago, Mikael Lundberg, who knocked 235 wood per foot with Eagle-in Eagle Last. The Swede has finished high – 10 in seven of his last nine outings and victory is certainly close. Van Phillips also made birdies on 17 and 18 to round off another strong week for the Englishman.

“That was a tough week,” Phillips said. “It was very windy and the greens are really tough but I’ve been playing really hard and I’m really happy. I’ve had some strong finishes in recent months and I’ve had a lot of fun on Sundays, so it was nice to shoot the right scores on Sunday.”

The Legends Tour now continues to Asia with the vattanac legends in Cambodia taking place over the course of two weeks.
