Cardinal Newman Rounds into Form, Petaluma’s Egg Bowl Win and Playoff Seeding Takeaways – The Press Democrat

While the Local High School League photo races were pretty much decided, the final week of the regular season still provided some fire fighters. It was a great way to send us off to the North Coast Ecept Plowoffs section.

A week after putting NCS on the notice of marin tastor, Newman of the Cardinal demolished a strong vintage team to wrap the redwood empire debere title. Everything finally meets the cardinals as they enter the corridors.

Petaluma took back the Egg Bowl title over crosstown rival Casa Grande and knocked the gauchos out of the playoff conversation. The Trojans also started playing their best football in the playoffs.

Windsor nearly knocked off Marin Catholic for the second straight year behind a stellar performance from the sophomore quarterback. The jaguars are likely to finish 1st

We’ll also take a closer look at the major NCS brackets. In the second year under the new competitive format of the competition, this looks like it could be one of the most interesting and interesting events in the long run.

Cardinal Newman looks shocked

The Cardinals were completely blown out by Vintage Vintage 56-0 last week in their regular season opener. That is now weeks away from their offense looking the best it has all year and an indication that this team is finally rounding into full form.

The Newman Defense led the way this season by starting Quarterback LT Retamoza sidelit after breaking his call against Manteca in the first game of the year. Backup Carmine Guevara did a nice job in his place, but the last two games have shown just how capable the Cardinals are with a healthy pitcher.

With the passing game now full, the GROOR Game has been very active – and has a director now back in his usual position of safety, the return of linebacker lineman webb from injury and the defense of lineman king pitts, the Defense looks good and is well rounded as good.

This is the team that Cardinal Newman has been building all season, and now, at full strength, they look like a real contender for the NCS Division 1 Championship. The Cardinals still need to get past San Marin and either Marin Catholic or the Acalanes, but the way they are playing now, that seems like a possibility.

It is almost guaranteed that De La Salle will beat Pittsburgh to get an open competition, which can set up a division 1 title between Newman and Pittsburgh. I would give Newman a good shot to win that game.

Petaluma Snaps Egg Bowl Skid

When it comes to the Egg Bowl, it’s been a long time coming for the Trojans – Crosstown rival Casa Grande has won the last four meetings.

But that wasn’t the case Saturday afternoon, when Petaluma’s offense turned in one of its best performances to bring back the trophy in a 38-21 win.

This is one of the best teams Petaluma has supported in the last few years, going back to the days when they had the likes of Silas Pologeorgis, Ed Berncich and Chase Miller. Now, they have guys like Evan Clarke, AIDAN WIRTZ and brody stevens who can all do damage.

Not only is the offense performing well, but the defense is playing their best football of the year. They forced and returned the insult on Saturday, as well as insight and key penetration on the Downs. They held the Casas to 13 first points and just eight points.

Clarke’s three touchdowns led the way, but Wirtz rushed for 168 yards and Stevens for 158 and balanced the attack. The last one was a maiece touchdown.

Petaluma received the 5 seed of the Nc Court.

Windsor’s secret weapon?

The Jaguars suffered a heartbreaking loss at Marin Catholic last week, but that shouldn’t take away from the performance of sophomore Gavin Restad at quarterback.

A very talented baseball player and all-around athlete, Restad has been playing at linebacker for the varsity team for the past few weeks after being called up from JV. With starting Varsity Quarterback Carter Vose Carseing a minor injury from the rancho cotate game, the restad number was called to fill in the Signal Cell.

In his first varsity start at quarterback, against the top-ranked team in the NCS, Restid passed for 262 yards with three touchdowns and rushed for 136 yards for a score.

Vose has passed for nearly 2,000 yards with 16 touchdowns this year, so I don’t see him losing his starting job – especially with the start of the windsoffs – but I wouldn’t be surprised to see windsor use him again at Clayson Valley Charter this week.

It can make the next year interesting, too. Vose, who has been a starter for the past two years, will return for his senior year but restad could push him into the offseason and a starting role in 2026.

Playoff Seeding Takeaways

The Playoff brackets worked out almost exactly as I predicted, save for a few changes by the NCS Endurance Days Committee.

The most happening was between San Ramon Valley, Calopolio, California and Monte Vista with eight seeds in Open / Division 1 and the top seed in division 2.

California finished the season No. 9 in the NCS and beat San Ramon Valley, which finished year after year.

The Grizzlies, who play in the highly competitive Eabul-Mountain League, finished last in the league at 1-3 with losses to De La Salle, Amador Valley and Monte Vista. Because of those two losses, the committee dropped California from seed 1 to seed 3 in division 2. Campulindo was named one seed, it is possible to call that two seed, which was called the two seed.

Interestingly, however, Campokolindo also lost to Clayton Valley Charter, who was named the No. 4 seed known as the No. 4. I’m sure the committee discussed and chose which team they would go with because of the head results.

Despite the Division 2 Seeding, I think these divisions will provide interesting division champions. I wouldn’t be completely shocked to see some of the lower seeded teams end up in the title games.

In Division 2, No

In Division 3, No. 1 Seed Vintage and No. 6 Dublin seeds including nos. 20 and 25, respectively.

And in Division 6, No

Sections 4, 6 and 7 all have some very good high-level conditions as you work down the seed but the other sections, except for the open, can all be caught.

I saw local teams like Ukiah, No. 5 in division 3, and Petaluma, No. 5 and Gawulo 6, both made deep runs.

St Vincent should be a heavy favorite in division 5, but two seed Ferndale could pose a serious challenge. The Wildcats broke the regular season scoring record last week with 647 points in 10 games. While they didn’t play a tough schedule by any stretch, that’s a pretty big accomplishment.

Finally, I will talk about American Canyon, which has a brutal first draw against California. The Wolves, the Champles of Rec-Valley, are 9-1 and looking to defend their CIF title STULAST STUMUST COUPT COUPT COURSTION STUMST COST BOLTE STICE STICE STEAT OFFATE SUMST COSTST MOTE STICE STATE TIET TO MAKE A HOME STORE SUPPORTED TO INTERRUPT / TEST 1 FREE SPLOCKS.
