DP World Tour Drama with Shane Lowry among the main actors involved

Most of the time in golf there is a winner to talk about at the end of every golf tournament.
It is true, there are also 155 rejecters but we don’t just see it that way.
But when the campaign disappoints in the Finale everything becomes a little frenetic.
This week’s Genesis in Korea is the last tournament of the regular schedule and, as such, it provides the last opportunity for players to stay in place of one of two things.
The first is a place in the top 115 places in the race to the ranks in Dubai – which ensures that they play the rights of 2026.
The second is a top 70 in the same rankings – allowing them to take it to the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship which is the first event of the season.
After the conclusion of that tournament the top 50 in the Rankings will advance to the DP World Tour Championship.
Who’s on the line? Let’s take a look.
Eddie Peperell is fighting hard
The start of English2520’s 2025 season was crazy and it hasn’t really changed since.
The two-time winner on the DP World Tour opened with a round of 81 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship before returning with a 69 that would have been good enough to make the cut. After a week he led Mauritius opening 54 holes before the closing 74 left.
Promising things but, although they added top 10s, only one of them was in the first round – the other three were in the second round (where he led one event after 54 holes but an injury forced him to withdraw).
All in all he has 165 years in institutions and it is not popular in Korea: He is set in the right school in Spain or in the Hotelplanner Tour, before the tour of the challenges (or the year spent between the two circles). The more uncertainty, then, the year is all too full.
Shane Lowry’s Lifeline
It seems crazy but the Irishman – who was a Ryder Cup star, briefly contested the majors and was tied for third at the DP World India Championship in October – is enduring 107th place.
With him not playing in the Genesis Championship you would think his hopes of making the playoffs were over and done with.
But he has an unexpected life and it comes in the form of his Ryder Cup appearance because the rules mean that European representatives can play in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship. That also helps Sepp Straka (148th) and Ludwig Aberg (75th) if they are looking for some winter sun and a chance to make big money.
Here’s the kicker, though: The DP World Tour has confirmed to Golf365 that players in this category will not get another Race to Dubai Points in the 2025 season.
Min Woo Lee is done and dusted
The Aussie may have taken care now that he is a PGA winner (he arrived at the Houston Open in the spring) but he will not be able to go to the playoffs because he is currently ranked 122.
The three-time winner on the DP World Tour is 4-for-4 in top-25 finishes at the DP World Tour Championship so he’ll miss out on all the big money available.
But with his playing rights in America up for a while his career in Europe and beyond will take a back seat.
Ryan Fox went to states
The kiwi is a gain for Min Woo Lee because he placed 105th in the race to Dubai and will not proceed to the playoffs.
But he won twice on the PGA Tour in 2025 — at the Myrtle Beach Classic and the Canadian Open — so he won’t be making any assumptions about his future.
He now has a base in Florida which has helped his improved golf in the states, but you could see him visit the DP World Tour in the future because the circuit often takes him more than the PGA Tour.
Bernd wiesberger hanging
The Austrian falls to grace. He played the Ryder Cup in 2016 and became an 11-year world champion until he joined LIV in mid-2022.
Prior to that he had three finishes on the DP World Times 24 tour including his first win in Korea in 2009. But since coming back from Liv she has had one high profile clip (last June).
He ranks 113th in the rankings and should be safe to play next year but won’t hear until everything is confirmed on Sunday.
There is no need to sympathize with him too much. He remains 32nd on the career earnings list with more than €16.5million.
Matthew Southgate is going back to school
Speaking of career money lists, Mike Lorenzo Vera retired from the game this year and sits at 130 on the DP World Tour Money list. That’s the highest mark for any golfer who hasn’t scored a round.
The man who may have surpassed him in the near future is MatyGate Southgate of Matherland who is currently 132 with an income of €5,989,11111.
Alas, he is also 137 in this year’s competition and went to the standards in Dubai so he is going back to school.
Yannik Paul on the edge
The real bubble boy in Korea and the biggest threat to Wiesberger, Clement Sordet (114th) and Adam Scott (115th).
The German was the winner in 2022 and speaking as the seller of the Ryder cup in 2023 but one of the highest 30 all season (although the third in the China open) leaves him in 116th position. You need a good week in Korea.
Canada’s Aaron Cockerill and Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti are 117th and 118th respectively – and play one round the other two. There is cruelty.
