Welcome to the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda. This windy, PAR 71, Robert Trent Jones Sr. Design sits on the Atlantic Ocean and is just under 6,900 feet. This will be the golf company’s seventh edition of the tournament and the sixth of seven FedEx Cup Fall events with only the RSM Classic left, back in Georgia next week.
As was the case last week in Los Cabos, Mexico, there are 120 players in the field and there is a 36-hole cut. The window is closing with only two events now underway for players to enter, or avoid falling, the top 100 at FedEx stops. One must get there at the end of the FedEx Cup Fall to earn full PGA status in 2026.
2025 DP World Tour Championship Ends: Rory McIlroy leads betting favourites

As one can easily conclude, the greens here are bermudagrass. They put a lot of effort into positioning and will run very slowly due to the wind. The fairways have a narrow width with very little color but there are many intersections to negotiate, emphasizing accuracy, especially in high winds. This is not really a bomber course but some tee length will be an asset in windy conditions.
In the last six rounds of the Bermuda Championship, we haven’t always seen the wind but it looks like we will this week. The weather is looking for anything between 15-30 mph for four days.
I looked at the strokes found: off the tee and on the fairway. I’m looking for good driving found, scratches, and strokes found: putting (bermudagrass). I also used pit proximity from 100-150 wards. Ideally, we’re looking for a good driver with a sharp golf ball for weddings and a short game. Also, are we talking about the wind yet? Yes, this also depends on the players on the lower plane of the ball and those who have shown the ability to separate themselves from those situations.
It’s a mixed bag for me this week as far as the combined courses go. I’m looking at Pebble Beach, Waalae Country Club (Sony Open), Sea Island (RSM Classic), PGA National (Classic Classic), and the TPC in the summer in Las Vegas. In the area involved here is Bermudagrass in most cases, coastal area and / or windy conditions, reduced accuracy, short courses, and courses where Skrouku is very important.
Matt Wallace (35-1)
The Englishman has done well in coastal areas in the past, winning at Corales Puntacana in 2023 and going well in many tournaments that historically present windy conditions around the world. He’s been playing a lot on Tour lately in an effort to maintain his status inside the top 100 in the rankings, so he has motivation to keep going. He is one of the best in the field on the road, from 125-150 Wards, and ranks fifth in the field in the last 24 rounds in the test.
Vince Whaley (36-1)
Whaley currently sits 101st in the FedEx Cup standings, so he has plenty of reason to maintain his current status and his road cuts lasted seven months. He has finished fifth and eighth here in the past and has top-10 finishes at sea island and top-20 finishes at sony and tpc summerlin. These results may be related to the whaley having one of the lower flights of the ball on the trip. In the last 24 rounds, he places 10th in this field to plant and nine in SG: putting (bermudagrass).
Eric Cole (40-1)
We know that Cole has a great short game, it’s one of the best in the industry close to these events, and unfortunately, he lost the same time, finishing on time at both the RSM Classic and the events in Las Vegas. He finished fifth earlier this year at the Sony Open in Waialae. His current form includes two top-10 finishes in his last start.

Victor Perez (45-1)
The Frenchman currently sits 109th in the FedEx Cup standings. He is coming off a 21st place finish last week where he putts in the top 20 in the field, greens in regulation, and quit. He finished twice in the top 20 of the PGA National and over the last 24 rounds, He places 16th in this field in this SG field: method and 24th in SG: Putting (Bermudagrass). It is also worth noting that Perez has one of the lowest flights of the ball on Tour and won the Alfred Dunhill Links competition, a non-high wind event.
Takumi Kanaya (60-1)
Kanaya is one of the top players in my stats this week as he is 11th in par, 6th on the hole from 100-12 yards, Kanaya has finished high the last 5 weeks as he tries to make his way full time on the PGA Tour. He has 10 internationals in his career.
Ben Kohls (110-1)
I’m back to Ben Koonles well and this week with triple digit times as in my lists, he continues to make sense. In the last 24 rounds, No. 1 in this SG category: Approach. He has 10 years of good driving experience and has been found on the threat wheel from 100-125 meters. He has never missed the cut here in Bermuda or Hawaii and finished fifth at the RSM Classic in 2023. Like Kaley, Kohles also has a very low ball game.
