How Tiger Woods was advised by Kai Trump before his LPGA tenure

There are zero expectations for Kai Trump this week.
The 18-year-old granddaughter of President Donald Trump received a sponsorship invitation to Annika, her LPGA tour event, and the Pro tour Debut has already achieved its goal by drawing pelicans Golf Club on Florida’s West Coast. Trump has committed to the University of Miami and aspires to play on the LPGA tour. But he is not ranked in the top 3,000 of the World Amateur Golf Ranks and is 461st in the rolex ajga rankings.
Simply put, this week will be a big step for Trump. And while he won’t come Thursday with plans to fight Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson and others over the weekend, he will make the LPGA Wood armed with advice from Tiger Woods, who keeps Kai’s mother, Vanessa Trump.
The 15-time major champion has said many times that he never entered the tournament and doesn’t believe he can win, but he had a different message for kai.
“He’s the best golfer in the world,” Kai said of the wood on Tuesday at a press conference. “I can say that. And a better person. He told me to get out of there and be happy and just go, what’s going on.
Trump also got to pick the brains of LPGA Legend and tournament champion Annika Sorenstam during practice. As Trump and the 10-time Champion ten around the pelican, Trump received pointers in his short game, and Sorenstam discussed Trump how he should approach the week.
“I don’t think anybody here thinks he’s going to be the one with the medal on Sunday,” Sorenstam said. “On the opportunities and the memories and the lessons learned. I talked to him a little bit yesterday. You know, just do what’s next this week. I’ll learn. I mean [18]right? I mean, there are so many lessons to be learned about living today – this week will be the biggest lesson learned.
“Hopefully this will motivate him more to work on his game and start setting some goals. But as long as you’re successful, you’ll be able to praise him.”
Trump’s invitation is controversial, given his abilities and, frankly, his last name. But sponsor invitations are about creating buzz and excitement, and grabbing eyeballs. Think Tony Romo at Byron Nelson or Tennis Pro Mardy Fish at the 3M Open.
2 ways to think about Kai Trump’s LPGA invitation

To that end, Trump’s involvement has been successful. There was more coverage of this week’s Annika than any non-major LPGA tournament this season. One could make a good argument that the buzz this week is bigger than any tournament this season, other than the US women’s open at Erin Hills.
All that remains is for Kai Trump to put down on the ground on Thursday and enjoy an unexpected opportunity following the wood and advice of Sorntam.
“I think I’m going to learn a lot no matter what happens. I’m just going to go out there happy and you’ll see which way,” Trump said. “I’m going to take a lot from it. Obviously, competing with the best players is going to be cool. Being inside the ropes with them, playing with them, learning what kind of shots they’re hitting, what they’re doing on the course.”
Sorenstam hopes that everyone who plans to play the Kai Trump Play will do so with the open-mindedness and kindness he wished he had when he played where he played in 2003.
“Going out there and playing a big course and an environment like this, I’m sure you’re used to a lot of people watching and analyzing everything,” Sorenstam said. “… I just don’t know how he does it, honestly. Being 18 years old and hearing all the opinions, he must be very difficult inside.
“That’s why I want to give her a break, get out of here and have fun. We want her to feel like family here, and I want her to feel, give this girl a chance, right?”
