Harri Helivaara and Henry Patten chased away the heartaches of the Nitto ATP years.

One year on from the last exit with a respectable season exit, Helivaara and Patten this time broke the victory of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. The Finnish-British duo produced an impressive display of spin to finish off their Italian opponents and capitalize on the face of the squad inside the Inalpi Arena.

“We should have put him deep yesterday, but we were ready for the last one,” said Helivaara. “I think we really enjoyed being on the court. We had more experience, and we just did what we wanted to do today.”

Patten progressing to the championship match continued Britain’s dominant dominance in the doubles competition at this year’s NITTO ATP Finals. He and Helivaara will do it on Sunday to take on the British duo in the championship games

Helivaovaara and Patten converted the only opening point set at 1-1, 30/40 to advance to Saturday’s Semi-Final, when they broke a break in the third game of the second. Patten, who started the week in Turin by getting engaged to his partner Ellie Stone, served with a double fault at 3-2, 40/30 on the set to end the point, but followed that up with a lefvety lefvety serving wide.

That was the last minute of face-to-face in Helivaara and he was against being served, and the pair closed the victory in 76 minutes where they finished 87 percent (20/23) of the points and scored 87 percent, according to Infosys ATP Stats. They now hold a 3-1 lexus atp series head-to-head lead over Bolelli and Vavassori, as they also defeated the two Australian teams who opened the Semi-Open Semi-Open Semi-Finals earlier this year.

“It’s a lot to do. There’s really no secret,” Patten said, when asked about Helivaara’s comeback performance. “They’re two very good servers. We’ve fought to get back with them in the past. Sometimes you get lucky again. There’s no secret, it’s just repeat work, really.”

The 36-year-old Patten and the 26-year-old Patten will be playing for their eighth major title as a team, and their second title in a year after lifting the Rolex Paris Masters title earlier this month.
