Next to each other on the back wall of the chicago Wolves ‘Dressing room’ Sit down the Locker stairs of Gavin Bayreuther and Dominik Badinka.
The proximity between the two is not without risk – when the WLVES American Hockey League was founded, it was decided that defensemen should spend as much time together and off the ice as possible.
Bayreuther is a teacher.
Bidinka is a student.
But as time has progressed, the family bond has grown between these. Call it the older brother, bayreutither who is 31 years old, and the younger brother, Bide-who is 19 years old.
Or maybe it’s something that might call the old man to Bayreuthar just a little bit.
“Maybe like Father – son,” said Bitinka with a big grin. “No, he’s like a big brother. I’m so happy to have him.”
Duo is an unlikely game, and Veteran Veteran Bayreuter – the father of two young girls from Canaan, NH, and has the National Hockey League’s AHL competitions under the time from Chomutov, Czechia, who is spending his first full time in North America.
“It was a design to bring the two together,” said the assistant coach Spiros Anastaswho conducts arguments wolves. “We were thinking about the very young and green Davidenseman in Bitinka that he can use tutelage and find out what BayreUTTER brings.
“Gavin was really excited about that opportunity,” Anastas continued. “The communication that happens between them in the lobby of the building, in their locker rooms, on the ice, during practice and in the middle of the game makes it almost as if DominiK is his coach.”
Personal trainer and now close friend.
“We talk all the time and train more together,” said Bingane. “He helps me with his experience. He’s been around, obviously, and when he’s on the ice he makes it easy for me. He helps me a lot.”
Bayreuther, who signed a free agent related to carolina herdanes on July 11 after spending the last season with Lausanne HC in Switzerland where he met the NHL and transferred some experience to the Wolves along the way.
And so, Bidenka’s advice began.
“I love you,” said Bayreuther, who recently recalled the storms following an injury situation on the blue line. “My dad was a lacrosse coach when I was growing up so I have a coach in me. I’m just trying to take pride in helping and treating Dominic the way I would have liked when I was the age I was when I was the age I was when I was.”
With the help of Bayreuther, Bidinka begins to reach the opportunities that the quarterbacks saw when they chose him in the second round (34th overall) in the 2024 NHL entry into the draft.
So far this season, Bitinka has two goals with a Plus-3 rating in 12 games while establishing himself as a reliable defender.
“I study every game,” said the 63-pound-3, 183-year-old Badinka. “I’m still getting used to things but I want to get better every game. Points – intelligence is not but for me it’s not about points.”
Those moments of quality always caught the eye of the proud mentor.
“I can see why he went from the start – the second round,” said Bayreuther. “He’s a heck of a player. He’s a good kid and wants to learn. I’m very impressed with him.”
Count the trained staff as well and they are impressed by how quickly Bilinka is progressing.
“His defensive closure, the power of confidence of players with the puck, the ability to get guys out of the puck, using his speed to make solutions and Anastas said. “I can be honest: I did not expect that at the beginning of this. Having this to cooperate with [Bayreuther] It allowed him to realize the options available and the effort required to break pucks out and the benefits of playing the 200-foot game. Bidinka will be the top prospect for the Carolina Hurricanes. “
Education is not limited to playing in the snow. Bayreuther also shows the badinka what it’s like to be a professional skier – something that doesn’t happen to young people living in the United States for the first time.
“He is willing to help me come to the US and move to my new apartment,” said Bitinka. “He and the other guys have always been very open to helping me.”
Anastas said: “They have such a great relationship. They are like a big brother and a little brother. Bayreuther gives him pointers on everything, how he will hear that they have conversations that can be better in living life.”
With bayreuther, it has become a good relationship that benefits both players.
“I’m trying to teach him something that I have and I’m learning from him,” Bayreuther said. “I was a freshman in college when I was years old and I was impressed with this kid.”
