Carlos Alcaraz was full of praise for his great cause Jannik Soni following their latest battle on Sunday at the Nitto ATP Finals. Although the Spaniard fell in Italy in the thought of the title of Turin, he was encouraged by his performance and admitted the difficulty of dealing with the sinner at home.

“I thought at the beginning of the match that I could beat him, that I could compete with him here,” Alcaraz said of the rookie, who has now won his last 31 indoor games. “It’s not surprising [me] and all that I am very close. It was about tennis. I’m just happy with the performance I did today. I am very sure that it will continue to grow, my level in indoor courts.

“I felt the improvement of Jannik. I said many times, I think that a player like him, always comes back and everyone is down. It is very difficult to play for him.”

Alcaraz was beaten at the US Open last time out in September, but the 24-year-old responded with authority in Turin, clinching the year-end medal for the second straight season and reducing his deficit to 6-10.

The final was solid throughout. Alcaraz suffered a hamstring problem at 5-4 in the opening set and strained his right leg, but the world No. 1 emphasized that the problem did not affect his performance.

“I felt something in my hamstring after trying to catch somebody,” Alcaraz said. “I can say that it doesn’t affect me too much because I can walk well, I was able to go to the balls well. [There were] thoughts on how [it] It will be there if I do the crazy things I usually do, how will it be. Those thoughts were in my mind sometimes. But I was able to play well. “

Alcaraz raised his temper and continued to push forward in the second set and gained a break advantage before the 22-year-old held back and turned the stage to victory.

“I didn’t change the plan because of the injury. I changed it because I felt that I had to do something else for him. “I try to be as aggressive as possible on the court in every game, but especially I think more against Jannik. Whenever I can, I just try.

“It worked because I was separating. I was serving well. That game, I think I could have had a lot of skill that I didn’t do.

After going 3-0 in the round robin stage, Alcaraz received the year’s ATP-End Now. 1 presented by the PIF Trophy on the court at the Inalpi Arena. The 22-year-old is now 71-9 in that span, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index of Win/Loss ATP in 2025, and has included the Roland Garros masters and the ATP Masters in Monte-Carlo, Rome, and Cincinnati. The Spaniard is set to conclude his tenure next week at the Davis Cup Finals.
