Hurricanes get 3 wins

The Carolina Hurricanes kicked off their four-game road trip Monday night (Nov. 17) against the Boston Bruins. They entered this game looking to keep their two game point streak going after defeating the Vancouver Canucks in overtime, before losing to the Edmonton Oilers in the second half. The Bruins were looking to win two games in a row after defeating the Montreal Canadiens. They won the last eight, one of which was against the storms back on November 1 after a 2-1 victory in Boston. After the final horn, the Hurricanes beat the Bruins 3-1.

Game clarity

The first period did not see any goals, but both teams had their chances. The score was 9-9 between the Bruins and Hurricanes as they battled for the first goal of the game. There were power plays from both teams, but both penalty kill units were Stellar, showing why both are in the top 15 in the league. Jeremy Swayman and Pyotr Kochetkov were alternating big save after big save. The last save came late in the season when Kochetkov went vintage with a double pan in the skirt

The second time we saw goals, both from the storm. The depth of Rod Brind’amour’s side had earned them a 2-0 lead in the middle frame. Less than eight and a half minutes into the period, it was captain Jordan Staal who got the Hurricanes on the board first. After a shot from Joel Nystrom, Staal fought a Bruins player in front of Swayman and somehow, with one hand to the man, he showed the puck in the net. It was the big man’s goal to make it 1-0.

More than five minutes later, it was Mark Jankowski’s double to lead the Hurricanes. A shot from Taylor Hall went to Jangowski, who had patience, was able to collect the puck he blocked and beat the high-flying Swayman to make it a 2-0 game. The Hurricanes outscored the Bruins 12-7 in the period, who had most of the control, and took a two-goal lead into the second inning.

The third period saw goals, one for each side. The first came at 17:27 as Taylor Hall made a wooden tackle to get around Nikita Zadorov for a chance to crash into the net. After finding Deking Swayman and extending the past, he was able to score the extension leading to 3-0 storms. While the Hurricanes were staring at a potential shutout, Riley Tufte was able to beat Kochetkov during a crazy layup to make it a 3-1 game.

The Hurricanes moved to 13-5-1 and snapped their three-game point streak. Kochetkov picked up his fourth straight win to start the season and is now 4-0-0. Their next game is Wednesday, November 19, against wild Minnesota in St. Paul. As for the Bruins, their next game is Nov. 19 as they travel to southern California to pick up ducks. They are now 12-9-0 on the season following the loss to the Hurricanes.
