The thrills, spills and surprising twists and turns of the DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP – 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix was another weekend for the history books.
While Max Verstappen was winning, it looked like his hopes had taken a hit as Wando Norris backed him up for second. That is, until, both Norris and Oscar Piastri were forced to force the McLaren Duo to leave Nevada without any points.
Here are all the key moments from another fiery round in Las Vegas…
Double Mclaren Disqualification Adds drama to the drivers
While Norris has not yet been able to convert his pole position to victory in Las Vegas – he was brave enough to be title contender max verstappen in the first half of the ballfiring and allowing Durchman’s competition to say that his bid for the championship did not take more of a hit.
However, this image was somewhat confirmed when it was confirmed that the post-race wear with the mostrmost skid on both the cars of Norris and the mate piastri team was found to be less than the minimum size of 9mm by the technical guests in the test.
After the news was heard, the news came that both drivers were born from the results of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, meaning that Norris and Piastri would lose second and fourth place respectively.
Following the early race results, Norris had a total of 408 points, giving him a 30-point advantage over Piastri while he was 42 points clear. But DSQ brings the headlines closer, with Norris’ New Tally of 390 meaning it’s now only 24 points ahead of the 366 one.
With the last two rounds of the Championship on the way, Norris will arrive at the next event in Qatar with more pressure on his shoulders than was the case at first, given that both of these opposing situations are very close.
The result may have been acceptable for Mclaren, but it certainly adds an interesting element to the driver’s battle to drive as the head of the campaign towards its formation.
Big win for Verstappen
Regardless of the drama of the next Mclaren, Verstappen was in line form around the streets of Las Vegas, taking the place after passing Norris by 1 lap when the Briton went following the setup of the red bull.
From there the position of the four-time World Champion did not look at risk as he extended his lead – a margin that eventually grew to a Norris-placed second when he was placed on the side of his car.
Verstappen’s previous visits to the Las Vegas strip Circuit have been exceptional, with the Dutchman winning the opening event in 2023 before securing his fourth world championship last year.
And while he won no such medals this time around, Verstappen’s win is now crucial to keeping his 2025 title chances alive, with McLaren’s double disqualification allowing him to close in on Norris.
Speaking in front of Norris and Piastri each received a victorious impact in the future, saying about his team: “I am very proud of all his season – and we have a really good time, and we have learned a lot in all the years to come.
“So it’s something that we just stick with and just try to improve and improve, come back strong next year and even, endure the fight from the year in the competition.”
Russell battled steering issues while Antonelli shone on the Mercedes Double Podium
Victor 12 months ago in Las Vegas, George Russell had to settle for the runner-up position in the 2025 program benefiting from the qualification of Horono Norris after finishing third on the road.
The Mercedes driver ran as high as second in the first stage and got inside the DRS leader Verstappen, but the damaged tires from the pressure combined with going at a limited speed limited the steering speed limited the direct speed of the Briton.
Russell said: “I had trouble steering again from Lap 5, as I did in qualifying,” Russell said.
“I was able to drive around this and get used to the challenges of the problem, and the pace looked really good in Stint One.
“After that, at the start of my second station when Verstappen came out of the pits, I was like ‘right, I’m going to attack now’ to see if I can take the lead, and get my tyres.”
While Russell battled for pace in the second lap, the opposite was true for Mercedes Team Mate Kimi Antonelli who held off Oscar Piastri in eBay in the closing stages and closed in on the front.
The young Italian had started P17 on the soft tire and made the first pit stop to set him up for P4, eventually making it to P4 but a second fifth penalty came on his first start at Fiastri after a fifth disqualification.
He said: “I think the strategy was really dangerous. I was a bit worried in the race, because the delivery started to appear, and I wasn’t sure if I could make it to the end.”
Ferrari is having a tough weekend despite the warback
Both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton battled to finish in the points during the 50-lap race after Ferrari had another qualifying session, this time in wet conditions.
Hamilton recorded his best ever Formula 1 performance, finishing 20th and last, while Leclerc could only manage P9 on the grid.
Leclerc’s fee in a dry race included Ollie Bearman, Oscar Piastri and IsaJar in the opening Stint, before passing Carlos Sainz after the Williams came out of the pits.
Finally to finish, the monegasque benefited from the double qualification of mClaren and finished one tenth of the podium after the penalty of Kimi Antonelli was attacked by the second post-race penalty.
“It was a bit of a shame because we lost a great opportunity to do something special because I felt the pace was there,” said Leclerc in the Ferrari program.
“Unfortunately in the second STINT I had Oscar in front of Kimi’s FRS and I was already very close and it would not have been possible in the first STINT, I had to take big risks.”
Hamilton, meanwhile, started on the heavy tire and went long in his first stint before switching to the line, and moving forward in the last places, adding: “A scary weekend.
PIN wins 2025 F1 Academy title
Going to Las Vegas, there were two women who opened the F1 Academy title – Doriane Pin and Maya Weug. The former led by nine points before the proceedings but got his weekend off to a flying start when he won the first race in tricky, rainy conditions with a combined drive. However, the weluug was surprisingly struck in the lap of formation, a devastating blow to its head.
PIN then finished fifth in Saturday’s final race of the season, which was enough to take the title by 15 points over the disappointed Welug. When the Ferrari driver finished on the podium in Race 2 to Atone for his team, it marked the end of an impressive campaign.
With Pin, who finished runner-up last year, his campaign to win the 2025 title has made him one to watch in the future.
The glitz and glamor of Vegas
Vegas produced a racing spectacle, with a firefighter, Mickey Mouse driving a LEGO CLEWS racing power car driven by Terry Crews leading a podium finisher race.
But there was plenty of star power on display too, with beyonce and jay-z in attendance. It wasn’t the end of the Heaundline Act, with superstar Cynthia Arivo parking her broom in exchange for the Williams cockpit on race day.
Familiar actors, Mark Wahlberg and Ben Affleck all got up to see the great race, with that honoree even getting the honor of interviewing the top three drivers.
Olympic stars Tavavis-Wootter Woodhall quickly, quickly Woodhall said they want to take some of the razzmatazz back to track and field, while tennis Ace Taylor Fritz started in his style.
All in all, the Las Vegas strip was packed with talent, innovation and the track – but it was the drivers who delivered the goods on Saturday night.
