NHL Rumors: Svechnikov unhappy, texier to habs & Carlo’s Value – Hockey Writers – NHL Rumors

In the NHL Rumor Rundown, we start with Andrei Svechnikov and his current standing with the Carolina Hurricanes organization. Then we move to the Montreal Canadiens, and that they are the former runners of Alexandre Texier. Finally, the Maple Leafs may be looking to restructure some of their members, and Brandon Carlo could be the first domino to fall.
Svechnikov relationship / storms in thin ice
At the head of Saturday’s rallies, Elliotte Friedman’s Elliotte Friedman reported that storms and svechnikov are approaching a potential breakout. To start the season, Svechnikov went scoreless in each of the first eight games, and had his ice time and usage significantly reduced.
Friedman said, “I understand that it is a decoration for the Carolina Hurricanes that if they want to send him, he will not be upset about it, and that he will be open to the idea”.
While that’s far from a legitimate trade request, getting to that point with one of your top guys can hurt. Fortunately for everyone, except for the 31 fanbases that put the idea of Svechnikov, Friedman says that because of the flexibility with the player, having 12 points in his last games, everything is fine for now.
The commercial market is very small in terms of the top players. Svechnikov can call a ransom to win, and the Hurricanes won’t make a deal unless it’s worth it for a while.
The Canadiens are expected to sign texier to a 1-year deal
Earlier in Saturday’s headlines, Friedman said that after his contract was terminated by the St. Louis Blues, Texier is expected to sign with the Canadiens.
The Blues and Texier seemed to be on the same page about letting him start fresh elsewhere. In what is almost the exact scenario we saw from the Toronto Maple Leafs and David Kampf, Texier made a lot of money ($2.1 million AAV) for what he was bringing.
Now, the team will be able to sign texier to a very important contract, and he will get in line and help the team out.
The Canadiens are dealing with a ton of injuries up front, and while they have good depth to round out the roster, Texier will help them out. The absence of Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook, and Patrik Laine has hurt the team, and with him out injured for a long time, they should be careful with the money he brings them at this point.
PostMedia’s Bruce Garrioch suggests that the Ottawa Senators could meet with one of the remaining teams that could do texier, although it appears that the Canadiens are the team.
Carlo can get some leaves coming back
After acquiring Carlo from the Boston Bruins in the 2025 trade, the Maple Leafs may be ready to move on. The Bruins brought in Fraser Minten and the 2026 first pick, which looks to be a lottery pick as things stand today. For the Leafs, Carlo has never played nearly as well as he expected.
Now that the team is struggling, they could use this as an opportunity to retool a bit, and Carlo could be one of the first players out of town.
On the Chris Johnston Show, Johnston said that if the Maple Leafs wanted to make any changes to the defense, Carlo would probably make it happen, as he would get them at a lower price.
Their problems get the same amount back that they pay less good, but they can return some of those goods. If you look at the entire defense, Morgan Rielly makes a lot of money and may not be easy to move; Chris Tanev is injured, aging, and signed permanently, although he is still active. Tanev and Jake McCabe are the most likely Locks to stick with the roster, too. Oliver Ekman-Larsson could be an attractive piece, too, but those maple leaves want to move may not be for everyone.
