Avalanche’s Capest three-point streak in a season – Hockey Writers – colorado avalanche

It’s been pointed out before, but the difference between the first quarter of the 2024-25 season and the 2025-26 season for the Colorado Avalanche is like night and day. While last season was always full of challenges and injuries, this season has been perfect in every way.
The Avalanche are not only out of the middle position but have an NHL-Best 37 points as of this writing. 22 games, they lost in regulation once, joining three other teams in NHL history to do it with 20 games with one or less regulation losses. With so many things going right, it’s almost impossible to focus on three important things.
Avalanche has many mulp options…
The avalanche has shown again and again at this time that they know how to work madly on fire. More often than not, those fires come in quick strike fashion, with several targets occurring within a 10-minute span. A big part of that has to do with Nathan MacKinnon and Kale Makar, both of whom should be among the favorites to win the Hart Trophy as League MVP.
MacKinnon, a former Hart Trophy Winner, leads the NHL in goals (17) and points (37) through 22 games. Even more impressive is that 28 of those 37 points came from power forwards (and lead the NHL). Oh, and us + 33, and leading in the NHL.
Tied for sixth in the league in rebounds, Marks leads all defensemen in goals, assists, and points, with his +22 trails only to Mackinnon. Of his 29 points, 22 of them came from power until he came up with the power of the fourth – with the most time on the ice per game (25: 35). Makar does everything in one game.
Places can change and there is still a lot of hockey to be played. If they continue on this trajectory, Mackinnon would finish just shy of his career-best 140 points from two seasons ago while Makar would have his third 100-point season since 1992-93. The latter, coupled with impressive defensive numbers, could be the difference.
… and the Vezina front-runner
As it turns out, the Avalanche are also able to win tight games because they have the best defense in the NHL. With all due respect to Mackenzie Blackwood – Who is 3-0-1 with a Percentage and a 2.47 goals against average since the injury – a lot of this claim is due to the making of Scott Wedgewood.

Choose almost any category of Goalteansing and wedgewood is near or close to goaltenders with 10 steps or more: 9.91 goals saved above (first), 2.51 more wins instead (eighth), etc.
For what has been a career backup so far, those numbers are absolutely insane. Wedgewood continues to play in his mind and the main reason why the avalanche also happened is to allow the fewest goals per game in the NHL while scoring the most goals per game. Although he has some competition, wedgewood should be the frontrunner for the league’s top colleting award.
The Avalanche are the deepest team in the NHL
Injuries to Valeri Nicshkin and Gavin Brindley are a challenge, but the Avalanche have proven to be the deepest team in the league to this point. They received great contributions from Victor Oloffson, Brock Nenson, Ross Colton, Parker Kelly, and others.
Defensively, things are just as strong. Makar Makar, but Sam Malinski is tied for second among Defensensen with 11 points. The burning 40-year-old was an absolute revelation with 11 points while reaching the third several minutes among the Defensensen.

The Avalanche can roll four lines, one of which may be the best in the entire organization. They have a true second line center for the first time since nazem Kadri and it should be a management nightmare on old nights as long as everyone stays healthy.
Cup or bust
Despite the challenges on the power play, the Avalanche is flawless now. They have strong dribbling skills, can play shut down defense, and have a goal-out goaltender to cover any mistakes. They are quick, physical, smart and play with commitment.
Unlike last season, the Avalanche are playing with a lead in the standings and show no signs of letting up. The way things are going, they could have multiple MVPs, a Norris Trophy Winner, and a Vezina Trecophy Winner all in the same dressing room when all is said and done.
