Arizona State sweeps back, 3-2 overtime win over Ohio State – Hockey Writers – NCAA

Downtown Tempet felt swell on Friday, November 28 – This is the kind of Black Friday crowd where the Mill Avenue Traffine spilled all over the downtown streets.
Shoppers were spilled out of stores with bags in both hands, and the air carried that familiar combination of holiday impatience and Arizona sunshine.
But on the southern edge of town, Sun Devil Athletics are run on an entirely different clock.
The Arizona State Sun Devils are on a three game slide. Women’s basketball kicked off at 10:30 a.m. in the desert financial arena, and a few hours later, at 3 p.m., Mullett Arena was filled with ASU HOCKEY.
At night, with the puck-on-glass slices still hanging by the packard drive, the American mountain is the 7:00 football stadium.
Even with the chaos surrounding Tempe, head coach Greg Powers and the Sun Devils edged the Ohio State Buckeyes, 3-2 in overtime.

“It was involvement, it was our success,” said power. “I felt like we deserved it. I felt like we did a lot of really good things tonight. We just couldn’t seem to find the back of the net.”
After the Sun Demons’ split against last weekend’s series against the Conver 3 Preyeers, they have now won both in a row, moving to 6-8-1, looking for the holiday weekend to be a turning point in the season.
Sun Devils Top Buckeyes 3-2 In Overtime
The Buckeyes opened Friday’s matinee with the first punch, scoring less than five minutes into a clean finish from close range winger – and Scottsdale, Arizona native – David Burnishside.
Burnside Beat Asu Senior GoalTender Connor Herley cleanly fast, gave Ohio State a quick 1-0 lead and set the tone in the Mullet.
Arizona State answered before the end of the first period. On the power play 2025 Draft Pick Cullen Potter took a shot through traffic to tie the game 1-1.
The goal extended Potter’s point streak to three games, bringing the 18-year-old to 11 points in 15 games on the season.
“He was playing really well,” said power. “Now it’s starting to get to him, and things are starting to happen on the score sheet. We don’t put that pressure on our players. They just have to play the right way and play hard and do the right things.”
Buckeyes captain, fired up, added his second in the afternoon during the period, again sliding out of the slot off a benefit and hitting Ovi Hasley to state the lead.
The sun demons are followed for the third time. The ontractity that sees the power group usually leads to a third time entry.
After both teams sold a visit to the penalty box, Wophomore Winger Noah Powell destroyed things against his former team, at 7:03 left in the third period.
“He’s just trying to get to the net,” Powers said. “That’s what we told him the second time. That’s a really good shot, and it’s going to last longer than you think.”
The game then heads to overtime, where Potter can find the winner Cruz Lucius in the desert.
“It’s hard because you don’t know if you want to be selfish or not,” Lucius said. “I just saw a five-hole kind of open and I just peeled as hard as I could there.”
Asu returns to Mullett tomorrow, November 29, at 5:00 PM and hopes to avoid the chaos surrounding them in their dark ways as they look to return to their ways leading up to the holidays.
“I think, all of our games, even the losses we’ve really seen in them,” Lucius said. “I think the bottom line is, find ways to score, get in the back of the net. Just being confident and coming together as a team, even if we’re down.”
