Will Tiger Woods play on the Champions Tour?

Come in every week for the unvarnished views of our writers and editors as they break down the hottest topics in sports, and join the conversation by contacting us in the US @Golf_Com. This week, we discuss Tiger Woods’ Champions Tour woods, A game of skins and more.
Tiger Woods will host (but not play) his Hero World Challenge this week in the Bahamas, as he recovers from his latest layoff. Though with Woods’ 10th Birthday looming on December 30, it has led to more speculation about whether or not we’ll see Woods play on the 50-and-over Champions Tour in the future. Woods has been very mum on the topic over the years, but he dropped something subtle. Does wood playing the Champions tour in any position really make sense? And can he succeed?
Josh Sens, senior writer (@joshsensGolf): If he’s healthy enough to stand up straight and turn, we’ll see him, slowly, because of finding his competitive drive or a cooperative agreement or some combination of the two. I don’t see how you stay away from it completely any more than Nicklaus does. And healthy-turning-unhealthy wood would certainly have a chance to win.
Jack Hirsh, Associate Equind editor (@jr_hirshey): If he can find a cart (and others in the field), he will play. We know how he competes and if the biggest problem goes true (all the evidence is supported) We will see him on the PGA Tour Champions. He keeps us in suspense simply because he doesn’t want the opposition on the move to know what his game plan is. As for his success … you wouldn’t bet against him against guys who used to www. He used to win even with one hand tied behind his back. Now he will show that he can do it with only one leg!
Josh Schrock, News Editor (@schrock_and_awo): I think we’ll see him here and there on the Champions Tour, but I think if he can turn it around and you think he can play competitively, he’ll put everything in the majors. Is that playing boeing classic help? We could get to the point where Tiger is just playing on the old tour, but I don’t think you think they are there yet. But if he softens, of course, he can go out and win more than 54 holes against the guys who hit him ahead.

Despite his battles to stay healthy and his game declining over the years, Woods remains golf’s biggest draw. Do you think Woods starting on the Champs Tour will do for that region? Could it be bigger than PGA Tour Stop Week?
Feeling: There will be excitement and excitement around you for the first time and bump ratings, but mostly as a kind of curiosity and nostalgia trip. Kinda like a bob dylan concert now. You want to see it. You have to see it at least once. But whether you really need to see it often is another matter. Personally, I’d rather remember wood as a dynamic athlete that he was under the spotlight using nostalgia trip reps. So yes. I’m sure it will give the big circuit of the purcuit a little jolt, but wouldn’t it be a good life for everyone – tigers, fans, competitions – if we raise us in any academic hopes and expectations?
Hirsch: It depends on what the PGA Tour Stop is. I see him playing in the top majors with occasional appearances at some of the more notable stops like the pristine Championship at Pebble Beach. That tournament is not a PGA Tour tournament. I can see him being reluctant to play in something like the Chubb Classic, the tour’s premier event, because it conflicts with the PGA Tour’s signature event at the Pebble Beach Pro-AM. He will have strategies that will end when he plays.
Schrock: I’m sure it would inject some energy and money into the course when it does. It may have made those events more popular than some PGA Tour events because, as Lydia said, even those who don’t know golf know Tiger Woods. But it can be more of nostalgia, a sense of grandeur than anything and that only goes so far.

The leather game returns to TV on Friday, as Keegan Bradley, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Xander Schauffele battle it out at Panther National in Florida. What do you like? What don’t you like? And was it enough to prove that there is always power?
Feeling: My feelings about the event were like a partially revived Turkey: Lukewarm. The actors were all likable and some of the banter, in particular, was hilarious. But the statistics that played for them were deceptive (unless I missed it, there was something passing for any sighting of any stream) how happy we should be that we should be there that each agita – gave me to be taken out by the agita.
The hersh: Meh, I found myself with it in the background while I was doing some dark parts of Amazon-ing. I enjoyed it at Keegan Boatracing everyone and showing what could have been at the Ryder Cup (holding back angry tears). Panther National looked cool too. But I have Josh. It fills the sports void on a Black Friday morning, which I think is worth something.
Schrock: Like most golf singles’ attempts to grab eyeballs, it was Meh. There were some good moments. The personality was fun enough for me, but then again I think golfers should be able to direct less, not more like Brian RolApp seems to be looking for. These events are okay every once in a while, but I don’t think they need to come back as a black Friday before the NFL or a full college slate. As Tiger, Rory and others have pointed out, golf cannot compete with football.

Our josh hearing reveals 2025 turkeys in the year, our annual awards hosted by Misteps or other sad moments made in the last 11 months. Who or what is taking over your home?
The feeling: Rory fan abuse at Bethpage, hands down. With a combination of brains and evil, that was hard to beat.
Hirsch: I will get straight here on the subject of sensors and say that it was eMCEE that joined in ” What are you doing?
Schrock: How could it not be all that happened at Betherage as the Europeans roared to a big lead? If I had to pick a silver medalist, I’d probably go with Phil because of … well, everything.

Let’s wrap up an easy (and hot) holiday weekend. What are you thankful for in the world of golf?
The feeling: I’ll see your cheese and raise you schmaltz. But the honest answer: Friends I’ve made through golf on every continent where the game is played, and a few of them here in my hometown.
Hirsch: That my fiancée, becca, hit a 5 wood long and high enough to hit and capture the Green On Bandon Trails’ Par-3 5 HOMOL LIFE BOARD AFTER ALL! I don’t mind if he plays golf more or twice a year, but that won’t hurt the cause!
Schrock: More cheese, anyone? Having a job that allows you to travel, play and cover golf is hard to come by. Not a bad way to get a “job.”
