With the conclusion of the season, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of all 489 players playing in the Dutch Eredivisie, and there has been some significant movement at the top of the rankings. The most valuable players in the Dutch first division are now Feyenoord forward Igor Paixão and Ajax defender Jorrel Hato. PSV Eindhoven’s American playmaker Malik Tillman is now third.
Brazilian striker Paixão’s meteoric rise continues. Signed for just €4.5 million from Coritiba in 2022, Paixão scored 18 goals and 19 assists in 47 games across all competitions. The productivity is especially outstanding given that Feyenoord overall have played a poor season. Linked with a move to Serie A, where Atalanta, who see him as an Ademola Lookman replacement, and champions Napoli are interested, the 24-year-old saw his market value increase by 40% from €25m to now €35m.
Paixão, however, has to share the top spot with 19-year-old Ajax top talent Hato. Without Ajax’s epic collapse at the end of the league campaign, Hato’s market value might have gone up even further. As it stands, the defender is still the most valuable player at the Amsterdam club. Linked with a move to Chelsea, it will be only a question of time until the Rotterdam native moves on. As a result, his market value increased by €5m to €35m, which seems only consequential.
Eredivisie market values: USMNT star Malik Tillman continues to rise
Rounding up the top three is US men’s national team playmaker Tillman. The PSV star saw his market value increase by €2m to now €32m. Tillman managed 16 goals and five assists in 35 games across all competitions. Born in Germany but representing the United States, Tillman has been linked with a move to the Premier League and the Bundesliga. Without a doubt, PSV will demand a significant transfer fee to allow the 22-year-old to move on.
The player with the most significant market value increase by percentage is Groningen’s Luciano Valente. The Dutch midfielder saw his market value increase by 180% from €2.5m to €7m. Among the talents to watch is Ajax’s 17-year-old Jorthy Mokio (+166.7% to €8m). The Belgian midfielder has already made his debut for the senior national team and has recently been linked with a transfer to German giants Bayern Munich.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
