Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 582 players playing in the J-League. The player with the highest market value is Hayao Kawabe from Sanfrecce Hiroshima with a market value of €3.5m (-€500,000). Second is Rafael Ratão of Cerezo Osaka with a market value of €2.7m, followed by Kyoto Sanga’s Brazilian star Rafael Elias and Kawasaki Frontale’s Kotai Takai (both €2.5m).
Takai is a player to watch. The two-time Japanese national team player (0 goals) has impressed in the J-League and has been linked with a move to Serie A club Udinese. Capable of playing in a back-four and a back-three as well as a right-back. Takai is perhaps the most promising young player playing in the J-League right now and, as a result, his market value by almost €2m from €550,000 to now €2.5m.
The team with the biggest squad value increase is Kawasaki Frontale. The club reached the final of the AFC Champions League Elite, where they lost to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli SCF. The international performances had a positive impact on the J-League club.

How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
