It was an action-packed May for football with all the major European leagues drawing to a close and the winners of the three UEFA club competitions decided. On the final day of May, PSG were crowned kings of Europe for the first time in their history after thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final. Earlier in the month, Tottenham edged out Manchester United in an all-English final in the Europa League with Chelsea lifting the Conference League trophy.
Besides trophies being handed out across the continent, clubs were also beginning to ramp up their business ahead of the transfer window opening. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Liverpool to join Real Madrid ahead of the Club World Cup was a major talking point as was Florian Wirtz’s future with Anfield emerging as the likeliest destination. Millions of people across the world flock to Transfermarkt every day from countries from every continent on the globe. And by analysing our data, we’ve calculated which stars generated the most views on their player profiles across May.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo received the most views on his player profile in May. The Portuguese superstar remains one of the most recognisable footballers in the world despite enduring another disappointing season in Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo failed to lift any silverware once again with Al-Nassr with speculation raging that he will leave this summer to pursue a new opportunity. As the graphic below illustrates, Lamine Yamal ranks second with the Spain international winning LaLiga with Barcelona last month, before committing his long-term future to the Catalan club.
Kylian Mbappé ranks third with the Real Madrid striker winning the European Golden Shoe after finishing the LaLiga with 31 goals. Victor Osimhen was crowned Transfermarkt’s Süper Lig player of the season after firing Galatasaray to the title to spark incredible celebrations in Istanbul. The Nigerian international takes fourth spot with Lionel Messi completing the top five with Inter Miami sitting in third place in the MLS. Wirtz and Viktor Gyökeres have both been linked with big-money moves this summer and they make the top ten, alongside Dean Huijsen – who completed his move to Real Madrid on June 1st.
