Transfermarkt’s renowned market values are recognised around the world, across every continent. First established in 2004, Transfermarkt has assigned values to players based on numerous factors and they are updated regularly across the season.
The market values are industry recognised as they’ve been cited by media outlets, clubs and players. This week, Transfermarkt is celebrating its 25th anniversary as we reflect upon an incredible journey from a passionate hobby to one of the biggest football websites in the world. Therefore, we’ve analysed which players have received the biggest market value increases across a single season.
The biggest market value upgrades in single season
No player has received a bigger market value upgrade across a single season than Mohamed Salah in 2017/18. The Egyptian international started the campaign at Liverpool with a market value of just €35 million after joining from Roma but that increased by €115m to €150m after Salah netted 44 goals and provided 16 assists across 52 appearances. As the graphic below illustrates, Lamine Yamal’s stratospheric rise ensures he occupies both second and third place on the list.
In the latest LaLiga update, the Barcelona starlet became the most valuable player in the world at €200m, after a €110m upgrade across the 2024/25 season. Yamal wasn’t even assigned a market value at the start of the 2023/24 campaign but his valuation skyrocketed to €90m – Harry Kane also received a €90 m upgrade in 2017/18 after scoring 41 goals for Tottenham. Kylian Mbappé features twice in the top ten list with the French superstar earning a €85m upgrade during the 2017/18 season when he moved from Monaco to PSG then a €80m upgrade during his first full season in Paris.
