Media Player Player ‘Parks’ reports on Ryder Cup comments

The dynamic nature of the 2025 Ryder Cup made by violent fans in Bethpage Black did not sit well with many people. And most of those people have let their opinions be known. Gary Gary’s Mnali Hall was chief among them.
But after a particularly harsh comment about the event caused a firestorm, the nine major winners are now blaming “media reports” for suggesting that they want to see the end of the Ryder Cup.
Here’s what you need to know.
‘Disheartened’ Gary Player calls Ryder Cup ‘world’s biggest event’
The player, who turned 90 on November 1st, watched the chaos unfold at this year’s Ryder Cup, and the experience left him “in a state of shock.”
That is according to the interview he is doing with Post Palm Beach After the Ryder Cup, where he took out the ceremony of what had passed.

The player said he was “disgusted” by the behavior of fans and other players at Bethpage, declaring that “the Ryder Cup is a bunch.”
“Golf has always been a kind game. So, and to see that, and to see the players using this ‘F’ word, it means,” the player told Jehovah, Post Palm Beach.
But one line in particular caught everyone’s attention: “The Ryder Cup to me is the worst event in the world.”
That comment caused quite a bit of controversy, and what an inspired player to take to his social media channels this week to explain himself.
The player goes back and forth between the Ryder Cup cliques in the statement
Given his public opinion that the Ryder Cup is “the worst event in the world,” it’s understandable that the underdog would like to see the tournament come to an end.
But in a lengthy statement posted on November 5th, the player denies that’s what he meant.
“It has come to my attention that recent media reports have indicated that I wish to see the end of the Ryder Cup competition,” said the player’s statement, “
He said his comments were meant as a ‘warning’ of the Ryder Cup “at risk of coming to an end” if the bad behavior at Bethpage Black “is allowed to continue.”

The player then said “Love for the Ryder cup” and expressed his wishes “to see this great team competition continue to grow.” But he made it clear that he doesn’t want that growth to come “at the expense of the dignity and respect that golf fans and golf supporters have shown each other historically.”
He also admitted that despite the biggest and worst fans, there were “thousands of supporters and staff at Bethpage Black who behaved the way golf tournaments should be portrayed.”
You can read the player’s full statement clarifying his Ryder comments below.
It has been brought to my attention that recent media reports have indicated that I wish to see an end to the Ryder Cup competition – nothing is likely to happen in reality! I hold its organizers, the PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe, very seriously.
Obviously, with my South African roots, I have never played in the Ryder Cup. But throughout my career, I have liked to compete in the Match-play-play format as my 5 wins in the World Match Play events in Wentworth are included, including my win when I beat tony lema after being 7. Also, being the head coach of the Meshwalameli Cup of Nations was one of the biggest milestones in my career.
My comments about the Ryder Cup were meant to be a warning that this great tournament is in danger of ending if the recent behavior in New York is allowed to continue, or worse, escalate further in future events.
I love the Ryder cup format as it has millions of fans around the world. I want to see this big team competition continue to grow in a way that allows it to meet the changing needs of its sponsors and partners. But, I want this growth not to come at the expense of the dignity and respect that golfers and golfers have historically shown each other. That’s what I was talking about and what I’m warning about now. I don’t want more than that the Ryder cup goes on strong. I love the Ryder Cup so much that I am currently helping to build a golf course in Luton Hoo, outside London. In that design I was very focused on producing a course that would meet all the criteria of the Ryder Cup.
There were thousands of supporters and staff at Bethpage Black who behaved the way golf tournaments should be seen. From the players to the fans, let’s work together to make the future of the Ryder Cup bright. – Gary’s player
