New evidence shows Jam FURYK’s nine-year record high may be broken

Has a 57 ever been shot on the PGA Tour?
At the recent Baycurrent Classic in Japan, a PGA Tour event, Matt McCarty stood on the last tee needing a birdie to shoot 58.
A par of 59 would have been a moment of magic left.
But after eight straight birdies, the golf gods turned back. McCarty blocked his approach shot left and had to reload from the tee.
He actually birdied his second ball but a bogey-5 meant the American had to settle for 60.
But McCarty’s goal-scoring explosion still sparks plenty of discussion.
Had he made that birdie, the 27-year-old’s 58 would have tied Jim Furk for the lowest round in PGA Tour history.
Some even get different results.
If McCarty had found the fairway with his first drive and lined up with his wedge – something he wasn’t too bad for with his second ball – he would have carded a 57!
So the unique number is accessible?
With so many birdies on the PGA Tour and golfers consistently, the lowest numbers are within the majority.
So far in 2025 we have had 59 from Jake Knapp and 60s from McCarty, Kurt Krt Kitayama and Adam Svensson.
In 2024 there were two 59s: one by US RYder Cup Star Cam Young and the other by Hayden Springer. There were also seven 60s.
Ok, these are amazing numbers but can the limits be pushed further?
Supporting evidence is provided in cattle all over the world.
BRYSON DehedHau made headlines and released clicking games in his communities when he blasted 58 at the Groff Greenbrier in 2023.
Two years earlier, Korea’s Sh Kim was signed for 58 to visit Japan while Ryo Ishikawa was also dismissed for 58 in another Japanese tour event back in 2010.
Returning to American shores with Frankie Capan III (2024) and Stephan Jaeger (2016) also joined the ’58’ club on the Orn Ferry (which was placed on Web.com) Tour.
Spaniard Alejandro del Rey Shot that number – on PAR 72! – On a challenging journey.
But check the Korn Ferry Zonke timetable and, yes, there it is: A 57!
That round of hard hitting was fired by Chile’s Cristobal del Solar at the Astara Golf Championship in 2024.
Not surprisingly, it earned him the nickname “Mr 57”.
So maybe it’s only a matter of time before he shares that nickname with PGA Tour Star.
Can it happen this year?
There are four events remaining – the Bank of Utah Championship, the World Championship, the Bermuda Championship and the RSM Classic.
The lowest cycles in those events?
60 – Adam Svensson (Bank of Utah)
61 – Roland Thatcher, Viktor Hovland (Worldwide Technology)
61 – Taylor Pendrith (Bermuda Championship)
60 – MANBASTIAN Munoz (RSM Classic)
57 or even sub-60 at 60 looks good but who can say?
And, if not this year, what about next?
McCarty’s Round at Baycursent was something special and a reminder that when these guys get the roll – the rest aren’t even in the world’s top places – the scores seem ridiculous.
