McIlroy spoke at length about the new Rory McIgroy Adkher ahead of the 2025 World Tour Rains, explaining the importance of the awards, their origins and why he will not win them.

But McIlroy is the first European golfer to achieve the rare feat. And it is that fact that has led to a new award.
On Tuesday morning, DP World TOUL announced the creation of the Rory McIcroy Award “to honor the winner of the European Career Gram Slam”.
Each year beginning in 2026, the award will be presented to the DP World Tour Player who performs best in major tournaments. That will be decided based on Race to Dubai points earned in the majors.
In a press release announcing the new award, McIlroy called the honor “humbling.”
“To have something named after you, that will be presented to future generations of players, is a great honor and very humbling,” McIlroy wrote. “I am incredibly proud to be the first European to achieve a career Grand Slam
He continued: “I look forward to seeing who the first recipients of this new award are in 2026 and it will be another very proud moment for me to present the award to them.”
DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings explained why they believed the time was right to honor McCroy, despite the fact that he is still at the end of his career.
There is no doubt that “Rory will undoubtedly continue to achieve many great things during his career, such as the trip we want to commemorate his historic achievement this year of the first successful European career,” Kinnings said. “This new award will be a lasting legacy that we hope will inspire future generations of DP World Tour members who aim to follow in Rory’s footsteps on golf’s major stages.”
The origin of the MCICLOOY Award (and why rory will never win it)
After the award was announced, McIlroy joined reporters for his pre-tournament conference at the DP World Tour Championship. And the new prize was the first title drawn.
MICLOY revealed that he first heard about the award not long after his masters won in April. When the kinnings approached him in thought, at first Microroy thought that it was very early in his career to call the prize after him.
“When Ludy came close to it after the masters, my first inclination was it’s not long, it’s a little early,” McIlroy explained. “And the more I think about it, the more I won’t be around playing forever.”

He continued: “It will still be amazing to have my name, after my playing days, my name is associated with this journey, and hopefully you will get an award in addition to me, that means there are future generations who want to strive to achieve.”
There are some important facts about the Rory McIlroy prize that you should know: Rory McIlroy cannot win it.
On Tuesday, McIlroy admitted that while it would be “cool” to win his award, he decided it was best if he didn’t qualify.
“It’s going to be great but I can get it,” MICLOY revealed. “I thought it would be better if I didn’t … I think it was a decision we all made. We thought it was better if I wasn’t eligible.”
According to the press release, the prize will be awarded to players who “want to repeat [McIlroy’s] Achievements in golf’s four major championships. “
With his new prize out of the way, McIlroy now turns his focus to the work at hand. He is the betting favorite in the World yourving program of the DP week around the world, where he is looking for his seventh race in Dubai title.
