I’m in the yard, said Patrick Mahomes as the Kansas City Chiefs lose again to leave the Playing with hope hanging by a thread
Patrick Mahomes cut a frustrated character and blamed himself after Kansas City’s Playoff Pickoff took another hit after losing to the Denver Broncos.
Mahome threw for 276 yards and one touchdown as the Broncos fell to 22-19 and the Chiefs now sit in third place in the AFC West at 5-5. Lutz is the broncos hero with the last, 35-yard field goal.
The Chiefs face a real battle to reach the postseason and Mahomes says any criticism of the team’s performance this season should be directed his way.
“I think we’re really talented and we have a lot of great players, but it’s about consistency a lot. I think it starts with me,” Mahomees said. “There are times when I shoot and we move the ball down the field freely. But there are times when we go through positions where I miss a throw or [pass] protection call.
“We haven’t changed enough to win games. It starts with me.”
Sloppy Mahomes Punished by Broncos
Mahomes was frustrated on two plays in particular, the first on the opening drive when he failed to find a wide receiver for the right Xavier and the second when he was caught trying to throw the ball out of bounds.
At the end of the first, he said: “I just have to throw. There is no other way around it. The play is made [tight end] Travis [Kelce] – And I think Travis is open – but you have these displays in your games and how [safety Brandon Jones] I’ve been keeping up with Xavier’s pace, I knew he would have an advantage down the field. I just have to give him a chance. I miss that. “
On his decision to try to select Mitchell and Ja’quan Mcmillian was selected, he added: “You can’t do it. I didn’t do it. [McMillian] he jumped and played well. If there is one bright spot in the night for the Chiefs, it was Mahomes’ Sole Touchdown Pass that set a new record for the number of TDs in Franchise history with Priest Holmes.
“He deserves it, the work he puts in every day,” Mahomees said of Kelce’s accomplishments. “He’s a leader, man. It just speaks to a person that he can go out there and break that record. That used to be his big plays.”
Kelce was less enthusiastic.
After declining to answer questions from reporters, the 36-year-old left the locker room saying: “If you were going to ask me about [franchise] Record, I couldn’t care less about that now. “
Kelce was a major offensive threat, finishing with 91 carries for 91 yards.
