Maple Leafs’ Easton Cowan’s role is not the result of privilege – Hockey Writers –

As the top prospect in the program, Toronto Maple Leafs Forward Easton Cowan is definitely going through an adjustment period with his time in the NHL. This season saw him play in different roles at different times while also seeing him get his first NHL goal and four points in his first 12 games.
Expectations will always be allowed and you don’t want to rush a player, but Cowan has done well this season with a great mindset and showing bright spots early in his career. However, some criticism of his performance has already surfaced.
Earlier in the week talking about the leaves of the show, and jd bunkis and Sam McKEE had interesting comments about the cowans after their 3-2 loss.
“He looks like he’s starting to get a little frustrated, which scares me. Having him on this team with all this bad team, I don’t like it.” Bunkis said. He added, “I don’t want him to feel entitled … I don’t need that culture of cheating on the next generation of young players.”
While I get what Bunkis is saying, it doesn’t make sense for you to suggest that it will be any kind of right to get power because it doesn’t and never has. From his early days at Gojhl, he never offered to play in the Ontario Hockey League. He had to find it. He eventually made it as part of the core of the London Knights that dominated for three straight seasons. He worked his way up and gained the trust of Dale Hunter to be a key player for him.
He wasn’t given the label of first round pick, he got it as his play in the playoffs came from his point per game (21 points in 20 games) in his 20th year) in his 20th year) in his 20th year) in his 20th year) in his 20th year) in his 20th year) in his 20th year) in his 20th year. He followed that up with a 96-point season that earned him the Most Outstanding Player award. He cut two camps because he wasn’t ready and added two OHL championships, a Memorial Cup and an MVP championship to the tournament. He worked his tail off in the PreSeason and had a lot to prove because of it.
I get that no one wants a psychic reading to re-sign given what we’ve seen in the past, but cowans have never been that type of player. It’s not his nature. He is humble and showed it when he was organized. He is hardworking and driven and raised in an otherwise accurate way.
Matthew knadies quickly became something of a new-six – six and there was no talk about him titled? And, like cattle, the finals worked hard for his position and he earned it as he quickly moved from the middle game to the top rope. Cowan does the same thing with the finals and yet the attitude changes the cowans. It has never been right in his entire career and it is certainly not easy now.
McKee added that head coach Craig Berube is ‘feeling the heat and that he doesn’t care … and he doesn’t care about development, he doesn’t care that he thinks he should get his job. ”

Counter Point to this, how should you let your best prospects know? By giving them every opportunity and opportunity to succeed. Why not give him a chance when Max Domi didn’t remotely do anything and Matias Maccelli checked.
Beribe has the same mentality as the hunters and if he feels comfortable playing the couran in big places, then they allow him to learn from it as he did other veterans in this group. He’s superior to her and he wouldn’t do that if he didn’t think he was a challenge. Yes, the points didn’t come, but eventually they will. For me you got it like other players, I haven’t made it far enough to be in that place.

With all the injuries and sendings on the line, he had a lot of great opportunities compared to others in that game against the blackhawks and while there was no time before they did it. Even in St. Louis Blues, Cowan had more looks and was more developed than other Veterans.
He is still learning and while he needs to clean up some of the mistakes he has made, he has had an impact on this team in the fifth hour. With at least 100 minutes played, Cowan starts in expected goals with 62.12%, scoring chances with 59.38% and high risk chances. That doesn’t seem to be a player who comes in with a focused mindset when creating opportunities while on the ice.
He is his own player on the ice and has already had better results than a roster full of veterans.
Cowan’s character stands above criticism
While I realize that the Cowans making a face on the bench after the Brokeways breach might rub people the wrong way, it’s the exact opposite. He shows emotion, a trait that has been hit or miss with this team. He is a character driven player and will do whatever it takes to win.

With the beauty limited by injuries and veterans stepping up, Cowans has earned that right to step up on the line, get those high power play minutes and be a key player on the ice. It won’t be like that for long, but his character and play alone stand above everything else. He fits the way Beribe wants to play; Working hard, arguing and winning battles.
There is no way Cowan will feel entitled to the right because he has been doing everything his way to the point and it has paid off handsomely. When Cowan was called, he released. He has earned the trust of the professional staff as he looks to continue to grow and elevate his game.
