Steve Kerr is ‘very concerned’ about injuries to star players rising due to the pace of today’s NBA

After a 110-96 loss in the machine on Wednesday, the Warriors fell to 9-8 in 2025-26. Currently that is eighth in the western conference. Speaking to the media, head coach Steve Kerr shared his concerns.

The long-time Header coach explained that he is “very concerned” about injuries to star players in the run-up to 2025-26. Kerr specifically addressed the speed and isolation of today’s NBA. Tom Habertroh of Yahoo sports had the facts to add to what Steve Kerr believes to be true. According to HabStroh, only 67.2% of all-star players have participated in games to begin the 2025-26 season.

Does the NBA have a problem with their star players missing overtime due to injury?

About a month into the 2025-26 season, it feels like a lot of players are missing time due to injury. On Thursday, November 20, Giannis Antetokoumbopho, og anunoby, Victor Wemboby, Dylan Harper, and Anthony Davis were separated. Antetokombopho, Wembounyama, and Davis are three of the NBA’s top stars. NBC Sports’ Kurt Helin noted that soft tissue injuries seem to have increased this year.

Additionally, Yahoo Sports’ Tom Habrtroh had some evidence to back this up. He pointed out that NBA stars missed more than 200 games in the first month of the season. Habstroh used the NBA’s definition of what a star is. With those goals, there are 45 of those players in the current NBA. In 2023-24, 87.2% of the league’s stars played in the first month of the season. That number dips slightly by 2024-25 to 82.6%. However, NBA stars are missing games at an alarming rate in 2025-25.

Tom Habstroh reported that NBA stars play in 67.6% of games. It is almost a 20% difference for the 2023-24 season. Not a good look for the league trying to combat critics who say the stars have never been on the court. Speaking to the media, Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr said this injury this season is “Very good.”

He blamed a combination of the gaps around the NBA and the speed of today’s game. Steve Kerr Steve said teams are now instead taking advantage of the opportunity to play. With that, players are asked to speed up the pace of play, and injuries result. He also added the NBA’s 82 game schedule is another thing teams try and balance throughout the year. Teams want to be at their best come the playoffs. That can lead to star players missing time early on.
