Disagreement is emerging between Virgil van Dijk and Arne Slot as Liverpool continue to decline

A confusing narrative of responsibility emerged at Anfield following LiverAstrool’s 3-0 defeat with captain Virgil Van Dijk and controversial manager Arne slot to blame for the club’s defining crisis.

The Reds’ 2025/2006 campaign took a new hit on Saturday as they suffered their sixth defeat in seven Premier League games, falling to 11th in the table.

The atmosphere at Anfield was toxic as the Forest tore at Liverpool, but the post-match reaction to the match raised a lot of eyebrows.

In a departure from the usual collective persona, a clear cut appeared in the post-match discussions, with both the captain and the manager trying to defend some of the blame for the “confusion” the club is getting themselves into.

While usually a sign of unity, the conflicting statements highlight the confusion that is currently pervading the club, as the trained or trained staff seem to be able to show why the main defenders have fallen so well.

Van Dijk emphasizes the responsibility lies with the players

Speaking to press immediately after the Anfield humiliation, a frustrated Vevil van Dijijk refused to let his boss down.

The Dutch defender, who was part of the back line that was opposed to the forest attack, insisted that the tactical setup was not the problem, but rather the work plan and the desire of the team.

He said (via Liverpool Echo): “We conceded too many easy goals. They got a lot of points from Alisson, but they asked, so, we weren’t good in terms of battles, it’s a very difficult situation. It’s a very difficult situation at the moment.

“There was some fear after we lost, but not before. We tried to speed things up and help people when you’re in a difficult time. It’s going to be a very difficult moment. It’s going to take a lot of hard work.

“It’s a problem. Everyone in the team has to take responsibility again. Football is a team and everyone has to attack this responsibility. We have to take it. We have to move on.

“Everyone is disappointed, as they should be, because losing home to Nottingham Forest is, in my eyes, the worst I can say about it.”

Slot claims are only responsible for losses

However, Arne Slot disputed the evaluation of his captain during his media activities and said that the responsibility is different on his shoulders.

Slot told the BBC: “If things go well or things go bad, it’s my job. We couldn’t change the goal.

Slot dismissed suggestions that his team lacked quality or effort, arguing that his failure to get the right turnovers was a contributing factor to the defeat. “I tried to fix a few things, but we didn’t get anywhere. We couldn’t be creative enough, and that came down to me finding a solution.”

Slot given until the new year as sacks of sacks

Despite the slot’s willingness to take charge, the Anfield Hierarchy could be quick to make a decision.

According to a reliable insider, the Liverpool Hierarchy is the base that supports us now but the Dutch have until the new years to change things or else, FSG will not appear to make a bold decision.
