Philadelphia Flyers News and Rumors: ZEGLAS, Luchanko’s 5-Aid Game, and more – Hockey Writers – Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have a two-game week short, but they make it count. The orange and black won twice, moving to 11-6-3 on the season with a wild card berth. In this edition of Flyers News and Rumors, we’ll look at how Trevor Zegras joined Elite Company, Jet Luchanko’s five-man competition, and more.
Zegras’ 21 points through the first 20 games is history
Although the season is only 20 games old, it’s safe to say that one of the most successful runs the Flyers have had in recent memory has been getting the Zegras from the Anaheim Ducks. The 24-year-old has seven rebounds and 14 assists for the 21 points he already has on the special roster.
According to Flyer TV, Zegras became the third player in franchise history to score 21 or more points in his first 20 games with the team. He joined Peter Forsberg (36 in 2005-06) and Daniel Brière (24 in 2007-08).
With a contract expiring in the summer, it’s all but certain that he’s sure to extend the flyers – they’ve got themselves a gem. The question is, how much, and for how long?
Luchanko records five main resources vs owen sound

In 10 games, the 19-year-old center has two goals and 15 assists. While the goals scored are a bit subjective, he is the most efficient assist – getter in the OHL, at 1.50 per contest. That beats Jake O’Brien’s 1.48, the No. 8 Pick of the 2025 NHL Draft.
Ten years ago, there were only three 19-year-old players with at least 10 assists per game, according to QuanthoCey: Dylan Storme (1.51 in 2016), and, currently, Luchanko. If he has to sustain this pace, it would be rare.
Phantoms End Grueling Schedule, BareKey & Bump still on
The phantoms have been putting up a good stueling schedule lately. When a youth-driven team plays six games in nine days, including back-to-back home games, it can be a real challenge. But they held firm, tied for fifth in the American Hockey League (AHL) standings with a solid 11-5-2 record.
During the six-game stretch, Lehigh Valley went 3- 2-1, ending on a high note with a win over the Hartfol Wolf Pack in November Alex.

Bump is in sole possession of the AHL Rookie crown, with 11 in the campaign. His 15 points are tied for fourth among first-year players, while Barekey’s 13 are tied for ninth.
Martone Steals the Unity Lamp
Another week, another brilliant effort from Porter Martone. The Con 6 Pick in the 2025 NHL Draft has 10 goals and eight assists in 12 games this season with a Prepman-Best Rating of 1.50. He was far from the best player in the title – covering the Michigan State Spartans.
Martone did a lot of the things he had last season, but he had a flare-up. The 19-year-old has only backed up the idea that he has an NHL superstar future, citing his good hockey sense and ability to show off.
Travis Konhecny and Travis Sanheim share the ice with martone at the 2025 Team Canada Championship, so they know him as well as anyone in the organization. During the week, they talked a lot about the 6-foot-3, 208-pound winger.
“That’s someone you can work with, that’s someone who’s going to compete, that’s someone who likes to learn, be a pro, play the right way,” Konecny said. NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I think he can develop into a really special player.”
Sanheim saw similar thoughts. “Just a great kid, lots of energy, fun to be around, great to work with,” said the defender of vetension. “I think he’s going to be a really good player.”
The young Flyers have been a bright spot this season. They will need that to continue in Week 8 of their 2025-26 campaign, hoping to move up in the Eastern Conference standings.
