Daniil Medveveev against the student was a rivalry that no one saw coming in 2025. Medvedev started the season inside the top 5 while Tien was outside the top 100, no setup for the ongoing show. However their three Lexus ATP Head2head meetings were some of the year.

As the court players all knew how to summon opponents, their confrontations became a series of compelling tactical calculations. Tien held a third set match point, which was saved by Medvedev with an ace, but in the end the match was destined for Melbourne late in the night instead of a straight forward win.
