Despite that, it was Everton who struck first, with Kiernan DewSbury-Hall firing just before the break. Jordan Pickford’s goal save, combined with Evet United, ensured that the visitors protected their lead and blamed the hosts for losing at home to 10 men regularly.

“I think they’ve been a lot better in the last couple of weeks, we might have taken Brenford back.

“You can’t go in the fight they showed you in some games in that, it destroys the confidence, it shakes the confidence.

“We’re trying to build trust in the manager, we’re trying to build trust in the team.

“The fans came together at the end, it was loud, and rightly so – that was a really bad performance.

“It’s almost as if you’ve gone two or three steps ahead, everyone feels a lot better about us, and you’re just back to square one.

“You can lose the football match, but you can’t throw them away like that, it’s not when you’re close enough, it’s unacceptable.”
