Newcastle head to Marseille in the Champions League tonight. Get team news here…
Newcastle can take a big step towards a top-eight finish in the Champions League with Winseille tonight.
Eddie Howe’s side have maintained their good form this season in Europe and head into the weekend sitting sixth in the league table.
A trip to the Stade velodrome is not something on the list of feints and Howe accepts it is a strong test of his players.
“I have said many times this season, trust in the team is very important, we have very good players who want to play,” Howee told the Prey-Match Press Conference. “We have the depth to play all these games, every game is different, the challenge is different, some games suit certain players. We want to win the game.”
“The most important decision is the way we play. The midfield battle will be key for us; we need to improve our technique with the ball. This will be a really tough game for us, but we feel we can rise to the challenge.
“We’re in the thick of the Champions League, we have to try and win each game. It’s a good stadium, I’m sure the atmosphere will be red, we need to make sure we use that to do that to do that to make our performance stronger.”
Marseille have released differently to Newcastle and have been strong in their home league. Roberto de Zerbi’s men are second in Lied 1 following Friday night’s 5-1 win but have lost three of four in the Champions League.
