The leather game is defined with the new ‘Purse Pumbu’

The skin game was an annual tradition during the PGA Tour’s Silly Sozi era, held at the end of the year from 1983 to 2008.
Golf Legend Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Gary Player joined the program in Arizona 42 years ago.
The South African emerged victorious in 1983 before Nicklaus repeated it a year later.
But after Korea Choi won the 2008 skin game, the competition went into receivership, with many speculating that the TV offering was no longer relevant to public interest.
But 17 years on and we’re back!
Some may remember it well but for those new to the skin game or old viewers who need a refresher, here’s what you need to know.
When did it happen?
Friday, November 28.
The return of the leather game was released as part of the big black sports Friday that also shows the action of American football and the NBA.
How can you watch it?
2025 Skins Game is streaming on Amazon Prime Video. It starts at 9am, which is 2pm in the UK.
Who is participating?
Tommy Fleetwood, Xander Schauffele, Shane Lowry and Keegan Bradley.
All four looked at the recent Ryder Cup with fleetwood pictures and low numbers as europe defeated Bradley’s Team where Schaufle was leading.
Justin Thomas was originally in the Line-Up but was forced out due to injury.
Where does it happen?
Thomas has his fingers in the competition as he is being held at the course he helped design with Jack Nicklaus – Panther National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The Carm Course’s official website says it “features elevated elevation changes and dramatic vistas” and that the par 72 can play 8,000 yards.
With so many risk/reward slots, it looks like a perfect place for a skin game.
How does this work?
Skins are a popular format in golf.
The player who scores the lowest on each hole wins that point, or “skin”. If two or more players tie a hole, they carry over to the next hole that will suit two skins. There is no clear winner there and the next hole is worth three more in it.
The winner is the player with the most skins when the round is over.
What is the new twist in 2025?
This year, a “reverse purse” was introduced. Instead of starting with zero dollars and trying to increase their bank, each player will start the tournament with $ 1 million.
Chad Mumm, founder and President of the Pro Shop and the man responsible for bringing the tournament back to life, offered this explanation:
“How do you get today’s second pitch to throw in the sixth hole in the sixth hole? You have them take money from somebody else. I think it will create stakes early on that will be really interesting.
“For the first time in the world we are defeated and these people look at their signs and their value goes from one million to one million to $900,000 … They will be like, well, S ** T …
“We didn’t want to pay for appearances, so we had to have a big bag that was big enough to get their attention.
“And then this idea of holding them there at the beginning and having them start with a million each, I think that’s a way to really get them to try to win these holes.”
Mom was back after a full Netflix series.
Who are the most successful players in the history of the skins game?
Fred Couples won the event five times (1995, 1996, 1999, 1999, 2003 and 2004), earning him the nickname “Mr skns”.
Payne Stewart was a three-time winner while Fuzzy Zoeller, Curtis Wonder, Mark O’meara and Stephen Ames all won it twice.
Tiger Woods has never been able to win. He finished the runner three times.
