In addition to Conroy, the Flames announced that President of Hockey Operations Don Maloney, Assistant General Manager and Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Dave Noting, signed two-year extensions. The contracts were signed at the start of the 25-26 season and run through the 2027-28 season.
NHL Rumors: What is the direction of the Calgary Flames?
Assistant General Manager Peter Hanlon, special advisor to general manager Jarome Iginla, and senior director of Hockey Operations Mike Burke round out the Bombers’ management team. So inking Conroy to an extension is important, given Ginla’s return to the club this season.
This is a good thing for the Calgary Flames.
Conroy did a great job putting the little core together. And you also know who is back in the division the team needs to continue again. #flames

There were reports earlier in the week asking why Craig Conroy was not signed? Those comments about not wanting to review but come back and continue to compete despite the start of this time building anger.
NHL Rumors: New Devils, Calgary Flames
Before the American Thanksgiving holiday, reports surfaced about Craig Conroy, and the flames were close to a two-year extension.
Hearing tonight that the Calgary Flames and GM Craig Conroy are making progress on a contract extension.
You’ve had a lot of discussion about this neighborhood in the past few days… not sure when it will be finalized, but we’ve come to that conclusion.

“I mean, obviously, I couldn’t be more proud to be the GM of the Calgary Flames and have the leadership team with me,” Craig Conroy told Flamestv. “We know we have some work to do, but we’re looking forward to it. But for me and my family, it’s a big day.”
It’s been a rough start to the season for the Calgary Flames. It’s not where they want to be after recording 96 points last season and falling short of the playoffs. There are many rumors surrounding the team, including Rasmus Andersson, Nazem Kadri, and Blake Celloman. Although Kadri isn’t going anywhere until he decides to go, and teams can make an offer to the Flames, they can’t refuse.
NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames not trading Nazem Kadri right now
As for Andersson, teams always need to defend the right shot. Andersson is focused on the season again, trying to make the Olympics in Sweden. Given the Davidenseman market, the Flames may have run out of value for Andersson. However, if he feels he wants to be part of the solution and sees the flames as a winner, he can stay. But if the team continues to fight, teams from the NHL will continue to come calling.
The pending UFA will garner a lot of interest from teams across the league, as Conroy and company face a difficult decision regarding his future with the organization. Not to mention, if they want to stay competitive, does it make sense to keep Andersson and let the youngsters develop?
Has the Rasmus Andersson situation in Calgary been resolved yet?
Despite reports of turmoil within the management team, Conroy has a vision for the team: to build the team through writing and development while maintaining a strong veteran leadership team. However, as Conroy said, these things take time.
“I think one thing is patience. You have to be patient,” Conroy said. “Everybody likes things in these fast things, and it’s just not the way. You have to take your time and you’re building very slowly in building Themba. And I just feel like I’ve tried to do something.”
Whether the players want to admit these things are distractions or not, maybe this extension of Craig Conroy is what the Calgary Flames need to get back.
