Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez were one of the most iconic duos in world soccer during their time at FC Barcelona, dazzling fans and breaking records. Now in the twilight of their careers, the Uruguayan striker has revealed something he and Messi can no longer do at Inter Miami.
Messi made his surprise move to Major League Soccer in July 2023, and six months later, Suarez followed him, helping Inter Miami win the first trophies in club history: the Leagues Cup and the Supportersโ Shield. In an interview with the Simplemente Fรบtbol YouTube channel, Suรกrez explained the deeper meaning behind their reunion in Florida.
โIt was born from the friendship we have with Leo. Then Busi (Sergio Busquets) was there, Jordi (Alba) was there, and I think we never imagined weโd all end up here together. I think after many years at a high level, a lot of emotional stress that the four of us experiencedโeach in our own wayโit was time to compete to help the club win something, to help it keep growing, and to enjoy ourselves at the same time.โ
Fully aware that their careers are nearing the end, Suรกrez emphasized how important it is to enjoy the game without the pressure of Europeโs top competitions. โWe never stopped enjoying and having fun, both on and off the pitch, and I think thatโs whatโs helping us finish our careers in the best way possible,โ he added.

Suarez on his connection with Messi
A key reason for the legendary success of the MSN trioโMessi, Suรกrez, and Neymarโwas the chemistry they built off the field. Now reunited at Inter Miami, Suarez reflected on how much he enjoys sharing the field with Messi again:

โItโs great to enjoy it day by day, to once again share the moments we used to share at Barcelona, and having him on the field brings peace of mind and makes things so much easier.โ
He also spoke about their on-field understanding, forged through years of playing together. โI know when heโs going to move, when heโs not, and I think there are very few times when we donโt understand each other or misplace a passโbut thatโs because of the connection weโve built from knowing each other so well.โ
However, the 37-year-old admitted thereโs one thing they simply canโt do anymore. โHe doesnโt play the ball long for me anymore because he knows I wonโt reach itโIโm not the same as before.โ Suรกrez said with a laugh. โI ask for it more to my feet. Still, weโre enjoying this beautiful moment,โ the striker admitted.
