Simone Inzaghi might not even be the Inter coach for the Club World Cup that starts on June 18, as he seems tempted by that huge Al-Hilal offer after a painful Champions League defeat. ‘I don’t know how to answer that.’

The Nerazzurri earned their second Champions League Final in just three years, a remarkable achievement considering the relatively small resources at his disposal compared to the other clubs who regularly compete for this trophy.

However, this evening’s 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain felt like a closing point for the four-year experience on the bench, especially as it meant he for the first time ended the season empty-handed.

There had already been reports that Inzaghi was leaning towards accepting the €30m per season wages on offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, and his comments in the post-match press conference in Munich felt particularly pointed.

Inzaghi will not guarantee Inter role in USA

He was asked if Inter will relaunch in the Club World Cup and if he would 100 per cent be on the Inter bench for that tournament in the USA.

“I don’t know how to answer that question. I came here to speak as a sign of respect and politeness after this defeat that was very painful,” replied Inzaghi.

“Teams emerge stronger from defeats, that might seem like a platitude, but it’s true and we already did in the past by going on to win the Scudetto.

“There is disappointment tonight, but we must keep our heads up high, knowing we faced a team that deserved the victory.”

The coach was pushed again on his future, which is inevitable considering the rumours he has already agreed terms with Al-Hilal.

“There is too much disappointment right now to talk about the future, we’ve had 58 games to get here since July 13 and talking about the future now does not feel right.”

Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed Al-Hilal are very confident they will get Inzaghi to join them, but the next step remains to be seen.
