The summer transfer window is almost upon us, and it looks set to be one for the ages, with many of Europe’s top clubs lining up to splash the cash. However, some sides may be eyeing up bringing in some top talent for absolutely nothing. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision to run down his Liverpool contract, and leave on a free transfer, has been one of the overriding stories in football media in recent weeks. The England international is set to sign for Spanish giants Real Madrid upon the expiry of his contract, or perhaps before for the Club World Cup if that can be negotiated. But he isn’t the only one out of contract next month.
At Transfermarkt, we have calculated the total amount of market value going out of contract at each Premier League club at the end of June from all first-team players, and some of the results may cause some surprise. There are over 50 first-team Premier League players whose current contracts run out on June 30, 2025. Some of those stars could still yet sign a new deal with their clubs, but plenty of players look likely to leave their teams on a free transfer. So which clubs are set to lose the most valuable set of players?
The market value of each Premier League club’s out of contract players
Alexander-Arnold is by far the most valuable Premier League player out of contract this summer, and therefore, unsurprisingly, Liverpool lead the way. In total they have €75.5 million’s worth of talent leaving the club on a free transfer – €75m from Alexander-Arnold, and €500k from youngster Harvey Davies. Their Merseyside rivals Everton are actually second, and, incredibly, the Toffees have as many as eight first-team players out of contract this summer. Dominic Calvert-Lewin (€20m), Abdoulaye Doucouré (€8m), Michael Keane (€6m), Idrissa Gueye (€2m), João Virginia (€800k), Seamus Coleman (€500k), Ashley Young (€500k), and Asmir Begovic (€300k), are all heading into the last month of their deal. It could be a busy summer for the blue half of Merseyside.
Arsenal are third on the list, with €33m worth of talent currently heading for the exit from Thomas Partey (€15m), Kieran Tierney (€10m), and Jorginho (€8m). Crystal Palace are fourth with a total of €27.6m worth of players running out of contract including Tyrick Mitchell (€25m). Manchester City take fifth position with €27.2m – most of which comes from the departing Kevin De Bruyne (€27m). There are a further seven sides with over €15m worth of players set to leave on a free this summer, whilst Bournemouth are the only Premier League team with no first-team players running out of contract this June.
