Milan’s week has gone from bad to worse, as after the senior squad lost the Coppa Italia Final, their youth team Milan Futuro have been relegated to Serie D.

The Rossoneri have had a dismal few days and some very costly ones too, as the 1-0 defeat to Bologna in the Coppa Italia Final was also their best chance of qualifying for the Europa League.

They are one of the very few clubs, along with Juventus and Atalanta, who took the opportunity to register an Under-23 team for Serie C football.

Milan Futuro flops in first year

It did not go to plan in the very first year, because this season was disastrous and this evening they lost the relegation play-out to SPAL.

Having won the first leg 1-0, they capitulated 2-0 away tonight in the second leg.

The club had invested €15m in the project, which was a total and complete failure, including after Massimo Oddo took over from Daniele Bonera in February.

Much of the blame is being pinned on director of sport Jovan Kirovski, who was hired largely thanks to his friendship with special consultant Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
